“You just need someone to love you / Might not be today, but I’m gon’ find my way into your heart,” he sings on the chorus, later adding, “Sooner or later you’ve got to let me be the one.” His charm and enthusiasm are back by solid production and musical arrangement, with horns, synths and stacked vocals providing harmonies that would make it hard for anyone to say no. But rather than be that annoying brother who won’t leave women be, he opts for the persistent route. However, it seems that our boy isn’t taking her “no” as a solid answer. Among the many surprises of Tuesday night’s extravaganza, Musiq Soulchild brought Robert Glasper to. “You say I’m not what you’re looking for / Think I’m just another n***a runnin’ game,” he spits to a woman who’s weary about giving love another go. As the drums and percussion set the pace and the keys and guitar provide the melody, Musiq slides right in to make his case.
